When Grand Central Station Stood Still



A strange sight at Grand Central staton. A couple of hundred people, indistinguishable from the 500,000 commuters who pass through the midtown station each day, suddenly freeze. 

They were part of an improv theatre group which has put on this public event before, but never in such a theatrical space. A cop was asked what was going on: "I have no idea! That is the craziest shit I’ve ever seen in my life, and I'm a cop!" (Click play to start the clip.)

ahhhh,.... the sixties. An era I have no actual recollection of.
Giggling with invention and re-definition - the 60's s saw design veer dramatically away from the rigid yet perfect symmetry and influence of the International and Swiss schools of design. 

In Graphic Design, the trend was towards work that was allot more personal, more colorful, accidental, humorous, and certainly dramatically more idiosyncratic. In Graphic Design and illustration, you see the rise of the individual, the design super star like - Milton Glazer, Seymour Schwast and Robert Crumb et al.
