Today, mid-conversation - I was staggered by the realization - that nearly everybody in the class ( wed dig 1 ) didn't understand these ads. What offended me really, was that no one bothered to ask .... Jesus, If something escapes you, ask .... these things, are all here to amuse, illuminate and to inspire, it's not bloody wallpaper you monkeys. Remember, if you fail to use your opposable thumbs, we will take them away. I keeeel you !
Classic - for a reason
It's not accidental when something is genuinely described as a classic. Presumably the object of attention; like a truly unforgettable piece of music, a work of art with a lasting influence, whether - its a beautifully ridiculous Lime Ostrich Birken bag or a really really obscure Finnish surf movie, all classics share by definition, a few essential elements -
An acute awareness & appreciation of it's own history and place, a fluency in its construction and control of technique, a clarity of concept, and perhaps most ethereally - that simple, yet, immediately evident - elegance of mind
Classics are rarely instantaneous, nor can they be, ever, self -described as " classics ". If someone (like Disney, or Fox News) says it's a classic, it's a dead giveaway that it's not. Sales people and fools, use the word falsely, or indiscriminately - to sell or to impress. Best, you learn to appreciate the difference.... Here are a few classics ...
