They are both fractals (rough/fragmented geometrical images that can be subdivided in parts, each of which is an approximate, reduced size copy of the whole), but the broccoli (romanesco broccoli) is a "mandelbrot fractal", whereas the second image is a "buddhabrot", which is a specific rendering of a mandelbrot fractal, involving a number of different calculations than a simple mandelbrot fractal, which can resemble a nebula.
On a side note, definitely one of the most interesting things I've learned all week, if not all month.
actually some sites said that Romanescu is a hybrid between broccoli and cauliflower. The vegetable tastes much like Cauliflower but is a light green color and it does have buds which are arranged in a beautiful fractal pattern. and the reason the second type of fractal is called buddhabrot is because its images seem to depict various positions of Buddha. When it is viewed upside-down, it resembles a human face with large, glasses or goggles over its eyes.
but yeah, that is some insane broccoli. For sure Daniel is going to have a retro t-shirt about it eventually
One is brocolli.... the other isn't
