I believe him. :D

As for the marriage, yea i knew about that and, if i'm not mistaken, that's why there are 2 people (Eyck inc) in the mirror reflection (witnesses) and Van Eyck's signature is "Jan Van Eyck was here" as oppose to the traditional "Mr X painted this", as if its a document.

but really the snuffed out candle i noticed is always a way of saying the person died. Like in Barthel Bruyn the Elder's Vanitas...a little later work but still the symbol is the same I should think.Ramzi Houdeibhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10756180968679816804noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36268732.post-13616737757081717182010-05-20T20:12:03.498-07:002010-05-20T20:12:03.498-07:00hummmn .... interesting.

Now that's a real conundrum. Seriously I'l look at the painting, I always liked his hat.

Did you know that at the time of the painting, Church consent or a sanctification of the marriage wasn't required, just the consent of the two parties. Marriage was a secular union of two people, not a cornerstone of the faith. It became so later.
Cool huh ?Radio Free Pescadohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09096072087925829778noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36268732.post-24488581918796668152010-05-20T10:53:27.715-07:002010-05-20T10:53:27.715-07:00Hi Sir,

One indication is that on the chandelier, when looked at closely, the candle on her side is snuffed out and Arnolfini's dark clothes are too dark for the every day fashion and fit a more funereal scene. There were other things but i forgot them
what do you think?Ramzi Houdeibhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10756180968679816804noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36268732.post-12669980378330170132010-05-13T10:11:54.152-07:002010-05-13T10:11:54.152-07:00oh my goodness.oh my goodness.steffihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07012493456724014625noreply@blogger.com
